Florida Living: It Never Rains At The Beach

This story is about another reason I love Florida and that reason is that it NEVER rains at the beach. I know you're thinking, "yes it does, Lauren, yes it does!"

But, no it doesn't! Last weekend, my husband and I planned to have a pool day or a beach day, but the weather had other plans. I stepped outside and noticed the sky was cloudy and gray. Rain was coming. This isn't abnormal in Florida. We live in a tropical climate after all!

We were not having it though. We couldn't give up and waste the last bit of our weekend watching movies on the couch. The Sunday Scaries are so much easier with sand between your toes and sun-kissed cheeks. We kept the faith, hopped in the car, and made the twenty minute drive to the beach, listening to all the best beach music. Bob Marley and the Wailers. Kenny Chesney. The Drifters. Jack Johnson. Jimmy Buffett. Zac Brown Band.

By the time we made it to Deerfield Beach, the sky was bright blue, the sun was shining, and the sea breeze was blowing that sweet salty air I love so much. Our car carried us all the way to the top of the parking garage before we found an empty spot. I thought to myself, "we aren't the only ones who know it never rains at the beach."

I took my time getting out of the car, as I often do, while my husband took in the view from the top of the garage. Once I joined him, we enjoyed the brief walk to the beach through the hubbub of beachgoers. Soon we took in the full ocean view by the Deerfield Beach Pier. I momentarily considered whether I liked the blue color of the sky or the water better, and in that moment, the gray skies that I woke to that morning were a distant memory.

After soaking up some beach time, we sat down at The Whale's Rib for lunch. Without hesitation, I ordered the famous Dolphin Key West Sandwich that was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives on The Food Network. Pro tip: order it blackened. Delicious!

We then headed home because I insisted it was time to go home and jump in the pool, which is what I say when I really just mean I am going to lounge by the pool. Either way, it was time for that. As we approached the highway exit that would deliver me to my pool plans, the gloomy sky reminded me why we went to the beach in the first place. It never rains at the beach!
